Enrollment

Your family belongs here.

Applying takes about 10 minutes and costs nothing. We do not ask for a social security number and there is no entrance test. If you are still deciding, come walk through the school on a Friday morning first.

A parent ID (passport, ID card, or license) and proof of NC address.
No social security number. No immigration status questions. Ever.
Early kindergarten entry

Is your 4-year-old ready?

North Carolina allows early kindergarten entry for children who demonstrate extraordinary readiness. We follow the NC DPI policy and can walk you through the assessment.

Enrollment questions

Is there really no tuition or fees?

Yes. Honor Prep is a tuition-free public charter school, open to any North Carolina resident. No tuition, no application fee, no admissions test.

What if my child's grade is full?

If we receive more applications than seats in a grade, North Carolina law requires us to fill those seats by random lottery: not first-come, first-served, and never by any measure of your child's ability. Families who don't receive a seat go on a waitlist in lottery order and are contacted as seats open, which happens throughout the year.

Do I need a social security number or immigration papers?

No. We do not ask for a Social Security number or for immigration status, and we do not need them to enroll your child. Every child living in North Carolina has the right to attend public school. What we do need: proof of your child's age (birth certificate or equivalent), a parent or guardian ID, proof of a North Carolina address, and your child's immunization record.

Can my child transfer in mid-year?

Yes, when there is an open seat in the grade. If your child is joining an immersion classroom without Spanish, we will support them along the way.

Is there transportation from my neighborhood?

We provide transportation by bus stop, with stops created based on the areas that have the most demand. You are always welcome to apply for transportation, at no cost to you.
