Paul Barnhardt is the Founder and Executive Director of Honor Prep Charter School, a dual language public charter school in Charlotte, North Carolina. A former teacher and school leader, he founded Honor Prep to expand access to a rigorous, culturally sustaining education rooted in academic excellence, language acquisition, and student agency. He led the school from concept to launch, overseeing charter authorization, facility acquisition, fundraising, staffing, curriculum selection, and community engagement, and Honor Prep opened its doors in August 2025. Paul is currently pursuing a doctorate in Educational Leadership, where his research focuses on improving the authorization and launch process for small, community-driven charter schools. He believes excellent public schools should be within reach of every family, regardless of background or zip code.United States

Dr. Crystal Howe is a native of the Bronx, New York. Through her own educational experiences as the daughter of immigrants and the first in her family to earn a college degree, Dr. Crystal developed a lifelong appreciation for the power of education to transform lives and create opportunities. For over two decades she has served as an educator and instructional leader at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. She is passionate about creating joyful, engaging learning environments where every child feels valued, challenged, and inspired to reach their full potential. Dr. Crystal earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Yale University, a Master of Science in Elementary Education from Mercy College, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Northcentral University. Dr. Debbie was born in Panama and carries roots in both Panama and Argentina. As a first-generation college graduate who grew up moving between two languages, she came to believe early that a child's home language is an inheritance to build on rather than a gap to close. She began her career in education at Panama's Ministry of Education and spent eight years teaching before moving into curriculum leadership, and she is passionate about the opportunities a bilingual education can create for all scholars. Dr. Debbie earned a Bachelor of Arts in History, a Master of Latin American History, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where her research focused on Indigenous pedagogy and bilingual education in Panama. When she is not at school she is usually reading, out for a run she has recently and reluctantly come to enjoy, or on the phone with family in Panama.Panama

Ashley Guzman is a Kindergarten Dual Language Immersion teacher with seven years of teaching experience. Originally from the Dominican Republic, she is bilingual in English and Spanish and is dedicated to helping scholars build strong Spanish language skills while fostering an appreciation for Hispanic culture through engaging, interactive learning. Ashley earned her Bachelor's degree in Education and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Educational Leadership, Management, and Emerging Technologies. She believes every child deserves a safe, respectful classroom where they feel encouraged to learn, take risks, and grow. One of the most rewarding parts of teaching for her is watching scholars grow not only academically but into respectful, responsible, compassionate people.
